Sanikolas and his helpers are almost here!
Each year, Sanikolas (also known as St. Nicholas in English or Sinterklaas in Dutch), arrives on Bonaire at Kralendijk’s port via boat, where locals, visitors, and especially kids are lined up along the shore eagerly awaiting his arrival. Legend says he travels all the way from Spain! Once the boat is docked, Sanikolas and his helpers, Zwarte Piets, come ashore in the most energetic way! The Zwarte Piets are quite the entertainers, complete with acrobatics, dancing and engaging with the audience. It is quite a sight to see!
When can you see his arrival?
This year, those wishing to see the arrival of Sanikolas and his helpers should be in Wilhelmina Park Saturday, November 19th at 8 AM. After the grand arrival, the festivities will continue until noon with activities and live music. The activities will make sure that everyone gets into the holiday spirit and is in a good mood.
Afterward, Sanikolas and his Zwarte Piets will appear all over Bonaire, visiting children of all ages until December 5th. Legend says on the night of December 5th, he will go to all the homes to check who’s been naughty or nice and will leave gifts behind in your shoe!
