Be cautious of the Floating Larvae Nursery.
For the next two weeks, a Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire (RRFB) Floating Larvae Nursery will be installed at the dive site, Oil Slick Leap. The large, inflatable, blue nursery extends above and below the surface and will contain coral larvae that will settle on star-shaped ceramic substrates. These coral larvae are so small that they are invisible to the naked eye.
RRFB asks that any boaters, divers, snorkelers, swimmers, and water sport goers please use caution around the Floating Nursery and to keep your distance. In order to protect the tiny coral larvae, please allow a safe distance of at least 2 meters if diving, snorkeling, or swimming. RRFB also asks boaters to leave more distance and reduce speed in order to minimize the waves and chemicals around the nursery.
Your Air Bubbles could kill the coral larvae.
Please do not attempt to swim or dive under or in the nursery as your air bubbles could kill the larvae. If you see any anomaly that could jeopardize the project such as the nursery being deflated, entangled debris, or swimmers and divers, please report your findings to Reef Renewal Foundation Bonaire at info@reefrenewalbonaire.org.
