Register for the Lionfish Derby 2023 Edition

STINAPA is hosting the lionfish derby at the end of May.

On Saturday, May 27th, STINAPA will be hosting the Lionfish Derby 2023 Edition in order to collect and remove as many lionfish as possible. Lionfish are an invasive species that feed on juvenile fish at a fast rate. They also lay thousands of eggs every few days! These are just a few of the reasons why we try to remove them from the reef.

This year, the area for the derby will be in the south between Punt Vierkant and Red Slave. The competition begins at 8 AM and ends at 3 PM at the Salt Pier. Once the lionfish have been delivered, STINAPA will measure and count the lionfish for your team. Once that’s done, the real fun begins! The organizers will transform the lionfish into delicious dishes prepared by their talented local chefs.

What do you need to do to participate?

1. Be a registered lionfish hunter.
2. Have a buddy to hunt with on your team.

Please note that only registered ELFs are allowed on the island for lionfish hunting.
