Dia di Rincon 2023 was bigger than ever!
Yesterday was Dia di Rincon on Bonaire. It is celebrated annually on April 30th and is enjoyed by numerous people. This year’s crowd was even larger than normal!
While many start preparing well in advance, the elaborate decorations along the roads started popping up over a week ago. I knew Dia di Rincon would be bigger than last year, but I was not expecting the number of people that showed up!
The celebration began on the eve of Dia di Rincon and continued until midnight. The following day, the festivities started in the morning and continued throughout the night.
Happiness filled the streets of Rincon.
Dia di Rincon was filled with loud music, dancing, and smiling faces. As far as the eye could see, there were multiple stages with local musicians for entertainment and plenty of visitors enjoying the music. As you walked through the streets, you saw locals in colorful traditional dresses and many straw hats in the crowds. There were also plenty of vendors offering delicious local foods and local crafts.
The parade began in the afternoon around 4 PM with loud booming music and a massive crowd of people. The large vehicles in front of each group within the parade were filled with massive speakers and local groups playing instruments and singing. Following the vehicles were groups dressed up in beautiful colorful outfits swaying to the sound of the beat.
As people recuperate from the festivities today, they will surely remember all the fun memories of yesterday. Today, May 1st, is Labor Day on Bonaire. While many take the opportunity to relax and recuperate, there is yet another parade today in Kralendijk from 4 PM – 6 PM, beginning at Van den Tweel and ending at Wilhelmina Plaza. So, if you are still in the mood to party, come out and enjoy the festivities! I might just see you there!
