All smiles in the Dia di RIncon parade

Dia di Rincon 2022 was celebrated in a huge way!

Dia di Rincon was the first annual event celebrated since the beginning of the pandemic. Dia di Rincon is celebrated on April 30th and enjoyed by numerous people. This year was quite special since the event was canceled for 2020 and 2021.

Usually, the people of Rincon start preparing for the event well in advance. There was less time to prepare this year, but it was just as wonderful as previous years. The celebration began on the eve of Dia di Rincon. The following morning, the festivities started bright and early at 8:00 AM and continued until the early morning hours of the next day.

Locals embracing the music

The joyful faces in Rincon were plentiful.

As you walked (or danced) through the streets of Rincon, you saw the happiness of locals and visitors enjoying the festivities. Singing and laughter filled the air along with the loud beat of the music. There were multiple stages with local musicians entertaining the crowds, women in flowing traditional dresses, and many straw hats. As you weaved through the streets of Rincon, vendors offered local food, sweets, and crafts for purchase.

The parade began in the afternoon with loud booming music that could make the items in your house rattle! Following the large vehicles providing the music were locals in traditional outfits swaying to the sound of the beat. The big smiles on everyone’s faces were a pleasant sight to see.

After the sunset, the party continued with even more music and dancing in the streets. Usually, Dia di Rincon celebration carries into the early morning hours, and this year was no exception!

As people recuperate from the festivities today, they are left with happy memories and photos to remember the Dia di Rincon 2022. Today, May 1, 2022, is also Labor Day on Bonaire. So take a moment, relax and appreciate everyone’s hard work on the island.
