Bonaire Adjusts Entry Requirements for High-Risk Countries

by | Jan 14, 2022 | Air Travel, COVID, Tourism Announcements

Bonaire Adjusts Entry Requirements starting January 16, 2022.

Bonaire has decided to adjust the entry requirements for travelers arriving after January 16, 2022. Omicron is now the dominating variant on the island, and active cases of COVID-19 are the highest Bonaire has ever seen with no sign of decreasing.

Below is a transcript of the latest announcement.

From Sunday, January 16, 2022, travelers from high-risk countries will no longer have to take a self-test on arrival, and they will no longer have to take a PCR test on the fifth day after arrival. These strict travel conditions have been made mandatory by Bonaire to delay the arrival of the Omicron variant to the island. Now that the Omicron variant causes 90% of the infections on the island, there is no longer any reason for these additional travel conditions.

All countries are considered high-risk countries from Sunday, January 16, 2022. All travelers from high-risk countries must complete the health declaration within 12-24 hours before departure. Fully vaccinated travelers from high-risk countries must have a PCR test 48 hours before departure or an antigen test 24 hours before departure. Unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated travelers must have a PCR test 48 hours before departure. Travelers who have recently recovered from COVID-19 and are not yet able to submit a negative test result must also provide proof of recovery.

The adjusted travel conditions are part of new rules for travelers to Bonaire.
