Washington Slagbaai National Park reopens.
Over the past month, Bonaire has received a considerable amount of rain. While it’s the rainy season, many said they hadn’t seen this much rain in the past. Washington Slagbaai National Park typically closes as needed when Bonaire receives a lot of rain. This is because the dirt roads get washed away and become dangerous.
On November 10th, Washington Slagbaai National Park announced that it would be closed until further notice due to significant damage from heavy rain. Yesterday, the national park reopened an alternate route that leads to Wayaka and back. The long route and short route are still closed. Currently, you may enter the national park until noon.
STINAPA is working against the elements.
STINAPA rangers have been working hard to reopen the long and short route in the Washington Slagbaai National Park, but the rain continues to be an obstacle. Over the past few weeks, they have cleared areas and even dealt with machinery getting stuck in the thick mud.
What is opened?
You can visit the visitor center and museum at the park’s entrance. You may also enjoy the walking trail closest to the park entrance. Additionally, the alternate route to Wayaka and back is currently open with entrance into the national park until noon.
