Nos Zjilea Cultural Market
Visitors who wish to learn more about Bonaire’s unique culture should visit the Nos Zjilea Cultural Market at Mangazina di Rei.
Mangazina di Rei, the King’s Storehouse, is located in the Rincon Valley and keeps traditions alive with its monthly cultural market, Nos Zjilea.
Each month has a unique theme.
The cultural market is generally held on the last Saturday of every month with different themes. The theme for August is the Flag of Bonaire. During the cultural event, you will learn what the flag truly means to locals.
Bonaire is a lovely island to live on, and we proclaim everything we are proud of with our flag. The pleasant breeze on your face, the unique nature with its lovely trees and animals, the unspoiled sea to swim and dive in, the local creole food we enjoy, and the delightful music fills you with joy. But the people that live on the island make the island more special. Bonaire is unique.
Enjoy the live music, food, and interesting presentations.
‘Nos Zjilea’ at Cultural Park Mangazina di Rei is hosting its monthly cultural event this Saturday, August 27th, from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM. During the event, Mr. Charlton Thomas will explain the significance of our flag. Then St. Michael’s Scouting Group, under the guidance of Chief Greavy, will give a demonstration on how to fold the flag according to our traditions and rules properly.
Don’t miss the culture market with local fresh produce and natural fruit juices ‘Made in Rincon’, locally produced herbal teas, local delicacies, local art, and much more.
The kitchen opens at 10 AM with different delicious soups to enjoy and a large variety of local creole dishes, including fish. All this in a cozy atmosphere with a live performance by the youngsters of the local band FMK and the local band “Timon Krioyo.”
