Upcoming Partial Lunar Eclipse is easily visible from Bonaire.
There will be a partial lunar eclipse on November 19, 2021, which will be visible from Bonaire and the surrounding region.
The eclipse begins at 2:02 AM.
The partial phase of the eclipse will begin at 2:02 AM and will end at 6:39 AM. Although totality will not occur on this partial lunar eclipse, it will have a magnitude of 0.974, which will occur at 5:02 AM. The total duration of the eclipse is four hours and 37 minutes. Because the magnitude of the Beaver Full Moon is so high at 0.974, this will almost appear to be a total lunar eclipse, and it is expected that a Blood Moon could very well be achieved at the highest magnitude at 5:02 AM.
Because of the first light of sunrise on November 19, 2021, the ending of the eclipse will be difficult to view as the rising sun will provide ambient light about 30 minutes prior to sunrise.
Bonaire’s normally clear skies should hopefully provide a great opportunity to view this infrequent lunar event. It also provides a unique opportunity for those who enjoy photography to capture something unusual. A lunar eclipse occurs, either full or partial when the moon passes through the Earth’s umbral shadow.

What happens during a partial lunar eclipse?
A lunar eclipse begins as a small notch slowly appears along one edge of the moon. During the next hours, the moon gradually dips deeper into Earth’s dark umbral shadow. If the eclipse is a total one, or near-total as in the upcoming eclipse on November 19, 2021, the last remaining minutes of the partial phases can be quite dramatic. The crescent of the moon grows thinner as darkness propagates through a night sky now deprived of moonlight. If you’re away from the lights of town, the Milky Way can become bright and beautiful as the near-total phase begins.
Not on Bonaire to catch this celestial event?
Don’t worry. Plan your trip for the next total lunar eclipse which will occur on May 15, 2022, that will be seen in North and South America, Europe, Africa, and parts of Asia.
