Bonaire Welcomes United Airlines back to the Island

United Airlines arrives on Bonaire

The first two United Airlines flights arrive on Bonaire after a long pause.

Since Delta and American Airlines resumed flights to Bonaire in June 2021 from the USA, many people have been waiting for United Airlines to return to the island. On Saturday, November 6, 2021, Bonaire welcomed United Airlines with direct flights from Newark and Houston. The direct flights offer more opportunities to visit Bonaire from the United States.

Passengers received a warm welcome.

After more than 20 months without operations due to the pandemic, United Airlines resumed their flights to Bonaire this past Saturday from Newark and Houston. United Airlines passengers were pleasantly surprised with a wáter salute as the plane was taxiing on the runway.  Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB) welcomed the passengers from Newark with a gift bag upon exiting the plane, and the passengers from the Houston flight later in the day were welcomed with a gift bag as they left the arrival hall. Local partners also contributed with gifts that were randomly given to the arriving visitors.

If the excitement of the wáter salute wasn’t enough, they were also greeted by Miss Tourism Bonaire Sunniva Manuel, and members of TCB. As the passengers passed through customs and waited for their luggage to arrive, they could hear music on the other side of the wall. Once the passengers departed the airport with their luggage, they enjoyed the cultural ambiance with music from ‘ka’i orgel’ and a couple dancing in traditional folkloric outfits to entertain the visitors.

This year also marks 15 years since United Airlines started flying to Bonaire from Newark. TCB organized a social gathering for Bonaire Air Handling Services team at the Techno Bar to thank them for their dedication throughout the years.
