Bonaire Culinair at Sweeti Bakery

Sweeti Bakery joins Bonaire Culinair

The fall edition of Bonaire Culinair includes Sweeti Bakery.

Visitors and residents can enjoy a plethora of flavorful dishes at many of Bonaire’s most popular eateries during the 15-day Bonaire Culinair event. Most of the participating restaurants offer the event’s special menu during dinner service, but there are options for daytime dining as well. The charming Sweeti Bakery is one such option.

On Wednesday morning, my friend Meredith Schnoll and I decided to enjoy the Bonaire Culinair menu at Sweeti Bakery, located in the heart of Kralendijk. When you walk into Sweeti Bakery, you are immediately greeted by a large display case of colorful confections, treats, cakes and more. There is a small yet inviting seating area outside and a two-person table indoors. Patrons can also choose to take away their order and enjoy it along the picturesque Kralendijk waterfront.

Each restaurant participating in the Bonaire Culinair dining event offers a special menu for the duration of the event.  While some specify a set menu, others may opt to provide two or more choices.  At Sweeti Bakery, guests can choose between two signature pastries, two savory snacks, and two juices from Smooth Operators.

The savory snack.

My choice for the savory snack was the quiche filled with vegetables, spinach, bacon and ham. The flaky crust and savory filling were a brilliant combination and expertly baked to perfection. The quiche is made daily with fresh ingredients, so the filling may change based upon availability.

Meredith’s choice was the cheese croissant. Meredith kept this one all to herself but said it was buttery, flaky, and mouthwateringly delicious! It sure did disappear off of her plate fast!

The signature pastry.

Meredith and I both chose the Red Velvet cake as our sweet pastry. The cake itself was almost too pretty to eat, but in the end that didn’t stop us!  The sweet, decadent, maroon-red cake had a generous dose of rich icing. Sometimes difficult decisions must be made, and I do not plan to give up on the mango coconut cheesecake so easily. So it looks like I will have to return to Sweeti Bakery for one more round before the end of the Bonaire Culinair event.

Smooth Operators juice.

Sweeti Bakery has partnered with Smooth Operators, a local juice and smoothie company on Bonaire, to offer two juice choices with the Bonaire Culinair menu. My choice was passionfruit, and Meredith chose mango. Both were refreshing and flavorful. The juice selections paired well with the savory snack and the signature pastry.
