Bonaire maintains its position within the Top 100 Sustainable Destinations 2018
In 2017, the island of Bonaire was honored to receive the silver award for the Clean Coast Project and be listed in the Top 100 Sustainable Destinations. We are happy to announce that the island has maintained its position as a silver awardee, and it has also maintained its place within the Top 100 Sustainable Destinations.
The island receives the Silver Clean Coast Award for 2018.
For a small island, with limited financial resources with which to create sustainable infrastructure, receiving the silver award is a great honor. However, it also leaves room for improvement in the future.
There are 15 core criteria for Clean Coast Awards.
Those vying for this special nomination must prove compliance with the 15 core criteria of the Green Destinations Standard. These include:
The Top 100 initiative aims to recognize tourism destinations that have worked hard to make a difference and take sustainability seriously. Nevertheless, no destination is fully sustainable. In all selected destinations, there are important issues which remain and must be solved and today Bonaire faces many of these issues as it strives to maintain sustainability.
The Silver Quality Coast Award is an award developed by the Coastal and Marine Union (EUCC). The aim of this initiative is to promote the sustainability of destinations. This must be achieved by developing a joint vision on the way in which the sustainability of destinations and developing processes and resources are considered. The development of processes and funds is also taken into consideration, in order to measure the sustainability of the destinations and to make it visible.
