Flight Ban USA-Bonaire Extended to Mid-January

Flight ban USA-Bonaire is extended through at least January 15, 2021.

The ban on direct flights from the United States to Bonaire has been extended until January 15, 2021. Lt. Governor Edison Rijna announced that this was done on the advice of the Ministry of Health, Welfare, and Sport (VWS).

The flight ban USA-Bonaire has been extended because VWS finds the COVID-19 situation in the United States worrisome.  Restrictions are also in place for Americans who wish to enter the European Netherlands for the same reason, and American citizens can only enter the European Netherlands if they fall into an “exception” category.

No flights from the USA have landed on Bonaire since March of this year. US tourism is extremely important to the island and Bonaire has been struggling with disappointing income since air traffic has been restricted. On November 16, 2020, the Executive Council sent a letter to various ministries in The Hague requesting that the airspace ban for the United States and Canada be lifted so that air traffic can start again.
